Do I need to paint or seal my wood round first?
If your wood sign will only ever be indoors, there's no need to seal. But if you intend to hang your wood sign on your front door, I recommend a sealer to protect the wood from moisture. See the Unit 3 supply list for the sealers I recommend. You'll want to have your sealer on your sign no less than 24 hours before you apply the vinyl so it has enough time to dry. Be sure to apply the sealer in a well ventilated space.
I am not painting my sign, but if you want to, paint it first, allow it to dry, then seal.
Note that our sealer is for the wood only. We are not going to be applying it over our permanent vinyl, as the vinyl does not need to be sealed and it can even cause issues if you do.
